Driving to Sun Lotus Guest House
(Do not use Google-driving-directions at this time)
Sun Lotus Guest House (formerly Iguana Ranch) is located off Cowichan Lake
Rd; known locally as "Old Lake Cowichan Road" which is a winding country
road running somewhat parallel to Hwy 18 heading towards the town of Lake Cowichan.
You can anticipate a one hour drive from either Victoria or Nanaimo.

FROM VICTORIA:
Take HWY 1 North, just after the bridge entering into Duncan--turn left on
TRUNK rd, it becomes GOVERNMENT rd, follow it around the back of town, straight
thru one roundabout, until the intersection with SHERMAN rd at a second ROUNDABOUT;
turn left, follow 1.7 km until you see "TANSOR/TEMPO GAS" where you
turn left onto curvy old COWICHAN LK. Rd. (hit your trip meter); drive for exactly
6KM; Look for JORDON'S LANE and a white INNER-TUBE-SHAPED SIGN appearing on
your left, about 1/2 km more, turn left on CULVERTON and follow for 1KM--turn
in at SUN LOTUS sign. (NOTE: whilst driving Lake Cowichan Rd. do not go past
the sign on your right for Paldi …the turn is about 1/2km before the Paldi
sign).
FROM NANAIMO:
Take HWY 1 South towards Duncan--but, just before Duncan at the junction with
HWY 18 turn right towards LAKE COWICHAN; aprox. 3km turn left at TANSOR rd.;
(after the hydro tower on your right) turn right onto curvy old COWICHAN LK.
rd. (hit your trip meter); drive for exactly 6KM, Look for JORDON'S LANE and
a white INNER-TUBE-SHAPED SIGN appearing on your left, about 1/2 km more, turn
left on CULVERTON and follow for 1KM--turn in at SUN LOTUS sign. (NOTE: whilst
driving Lake Cowichan Rd. do not go past the sign on your right for Paldi…the
turn is about 1/2km before the Paldi sign).
FROM VANCOUVER / FERRY DIRECTIONS:
The departure points from Vancouver are either Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal
(south Vancouver) or from Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal (north Vancouver)...
If you have your own vehicle you have the choice of 3 suitable arrival points
on the Island, but the best choices are the 2 ferry docks near Nanaimo called
Departure Bay & Duke Point.
Sun Lotus is located half way between Victoria and Nanaimo...but, coming from
Nanaimo is slightly faster and more dependable by following Highway 1 south.
(The lesser option is the one nearest Victoria --which is actually in Sidney--called
Swartz Bay: arriving at/coming from Sidney you must travel down the peninsula
on Highway 17 towards Victoria before you can cross -over and head up-island
on Highway 1...however, if your timing is right, you can take the beautiful
"Brentwood Bay/Mill Bay Ferry" called the "Saanich Inlet Route"
to cross the water, we are about 25 minute drive from the arrival point at Mill
Bay, following Highway 1 north towards Duncan. .)
Once in Duncan, follow the driving directions listed above.
If you do not have a vehicle you have 2 options:
1) More costly, but a little easier: take a long-distance bus from downtown
Vancouver with a destination of Duncan--this bus will go aboard the ferry and
you will transfer to another bus when you arrive on the Island, bringing you
to the Duncan Bus depot. From there you can take an infrequent city bus #7 Lake
Cowichan and be dropped off on Lake Cowichan Road at Culverton--but, best to
give us a call in advance, if we are in town we will pick you up. 250-709-9010
2) Cheaper: take a city bus from downtown Vancouver to Horseshoe
Bay ferry terminal, walk aboard ferry, while on the ferry purchase ticket
for the long-distance bus to Duncan, you likely change buses when you arrive
on the island, bringing you to the Duncan Bus depot. From there you can take
an infrequent city bus #7 Lake Cowichan and be dropped off on Lake Cowichan
Road at Culverton--but, best to give us a call in advance, if we are in town
